Railways to provide fool proof security at stations
Patna, Jan 23 (UNI) Concerned over frequent attacks on railway property by the terrorists and extremists out fits across the country, the railways have evolved a comprehensive system to provide fool proof security at all vulnerable railway stations of the country.
Sources at the East Central Railways (ECR) said here today that the railway board had already approved the plan likely to be implemented in different phase. Nearly 100 railway stations would be covered under the first phase including that of Patna Junction.
Under the special security system the railway station would have the security cover on the patterns of the security system provided at the airports.
The sources said that apart from the railway stations other vital installations of the railways would also be brought under the new security cover.
For this the railways have invited proposals from the national as well as international agencies interested to fulfill the requirements from the security point of view.
The sources said the railway was likely to provide internet protocol surveillance through which the security personnel can keep a tab on the movement of any particular passenger. With the help of the special softwary the railways would easily track the images of passengers loitering on railway platforms or railway premises.
The new security system would have the device to locate the passenger and it can also monitor traffic density on the platforms.
Personal and baggage screening system, explosives identification and disposal system, electronic control and other safety related devices would be installed at each vulnerable railway station, the sources added.
The sources further said the railways was preparing to finalise the tender of the related project at the earliest so that the work could be completed on priority basis as several innocent lives and the railway properties had so far been lost in the terror as well as extremist's attack.
The security would be beefed up particularly in the North Railways, South East Central Railways, ECR and South Eastern Railways informed the sources saying that the ECR had been bourght under the national security perspective as it was facing tough situation due to the extremist's attack.
The railawy stations likely to be covered under the new security system include Mumbai, Delhi, Kilkata, Chennai, Ghaziabad,Chandigarh, Saharanpur, Ambala, Moradabad, Bareilly, Dehradun, Haridwar, Lucknow, Varanasi, Patna and others.
