Haryana approves Metro Project in tri-city: Issar
Chandigarh, Jan 23 (UNI) Haryana Chief Secretary Promilla Issar today said the Haryana Government has given approval, in principle, to the Metro Project for the tri-city of Chandigarh-Panchkula-Mohali.
Ms Promilla Issar while interacting with mediapersons here today said, ''For the success of the proposed Metro Project in the tri-city, there is a need to improve the efficiency of bus service and make it available at the doorsteps of the people so as to avoid their travelling even to the Metro Station in their own vehicles.'' She said a meeting of the Chief Secretaries of Punjab and Haryana and Chandigarh Adviser had already been held last week on the Metro Project.
It had been decided in the meeting that Metro would be set up in a phased manner. In the first phase, all these three major cities would be covered and later on in the second phase, the Metro would be extended in the areas surrounding these three cities. The Metro project would ease the traffic congestion on the roads of these three cities to a great extent, she added.
The Chief Secretary suggested the construction of a ring road in the periphery of Chandigarh on the pattern of New Delhi so that the people commuting from Panchkula and entry points of periphery did not have to travel through the roads of Chandigarh.
