Govt's bid to clamp maternal, infant mortality rates

Hyderabad, Jan 23 (UNI) In a bid to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates in the state, the Andhra Pradesh Government today launched 'Mother NGO scheme'.

Principal Secretary to Health, Medical and Family Welfare P L Agarwal launched the scheme 'to reduce Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) and Infant Mortality Rate (IFR) through provision of reproductive and child health services in backward and inaccessible areas,' an official release here said.

The scheme would reach out to more than six lakh people in over 1,000 backward villages.

State Family Welfare Commissioner Anil Punetha said collaborative efforts between the NGOs and the government would bring about significant changes in backward areas, the release added.
