GJM calls for "Darjeeling Bandh" tomorrow

Siliguri, Jan 23 (UNI) The Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM) has called a 12-hour ''Darjeeling Bandh'' tomorrow to protest the police failure to arrest the GNLF activists, involved in the attack on its leaders.

GJM spokesperson Binoy Tamang said they were compelled to call the bandh as police had failed to meet their deadline of arresting the attackers by 1800 hrs this evening.

Two GJM leaders were injured when GNLF activists fired at them at Ghaiyabari under Kurseong police station in the district yesterday.

The injured were rushed to the Kurseong hospital from where they were referred to Darjeeling Hospital.

Gorkha National Liberation Front's (GNLF) Kurseong unit president Indra Narayan Pradhan allegedly led the attack in which the two leaders received bullet injuries.

Police raided Pradhan's house and seized a revolver and a double barrel gun and arrested his wife Deepa Pradhan. However, Pradhan was absconding.

Meanwhile, Deepa Pradhan was today produced before the Kurseong court where her bail plea was rejected and she was remanded to judicial custody.

Combing operation was being conducted in and around the Shibkhola forest under the Kurseong subdivision to nab Pradhan, police said.
