First semester Board exams to be subjective in Haryana
Chandigarh, Jan 23 (UNI) The Haryana School of Education Board has decided to conduct subjective type examination in the first semester instead of objective type from the next academic session.
Board Chairman Rajan Gupta said today that this was being done to bring qualitative improvement in the examination system. It had also been decided to give equal weightage of 50-50 per cent to both the semesters from the next session and the result would be declared on the basis of combined performance and total marks obtained in both the semesters.
For more participation of schools, the issue of increasing the percentage of Continuous Combined Evaluation (CCI) from 10 per cent to 30 per cent would also be discussed with academicians being consulted by the Board, he added.
Mr Gupta said that the pass formula of middle and secondary examinations would also be modified from the next academic session.
In the Secondary examination, there would be five compulsory subjects, which would include English, Hindi, Maths, Social Science and Science and it would be compulsory to pass in these subjects.
The sixth subject would be optional and passing in that subject would not be compulsory.
He said that the pass formula of middle examination had also been amended. According to the new formula, it would be compulsory to pass in the six subjects of English, Hindi, Maths, Social Science, Science and Technology and a third language. Merit would be decided on total of 600 marks.
After the implementation of new formula, the candidates getting re-appear upto two subjects would be eligible for temporary admission to next class. However, the candidates having re-appear in more than two subjects would be ineligible for next promotion.
He said that it had also been decided to teach Environment subject along with General Knowledge in the class VI to XII.It had also been decided to give temporary admission to the students of secondary classes who had not obtained 40 per cent or Plus C Grade in the subjects of Maths and Science to the Commerce and Science streams of class XI on the condition that they would improve their ranking or marks.
He said that in the examination of Middle, Secondary and Senior Secondary of Haryana Open School two additional subjects could be taken just like formal examination.
He said that the candidates who have not passed the vocational examination of XII in the prescribed chances would be given the facility of appearing in the examination of English and Hindi subjects under the CTP system of Haryana Open School.
He said that it had been decided to conduct the examination of additional subjects and declare results under the semester system. In case the candidate fails in one semester and passes in the othersemester in these additional subjects, he would be declared re-appear only in one semester in which he had failed.
