Eighth International Stona fair to begin on February 6
Bangalore, Jan 23(UNI) The eighth edition of five day International granite and stone fair 'STONA 2008' will begin here on February six.
The world's largest fair exhibiting India's exhotic natural stones would provide a unique opportunity for Indian entrepreneurs to display their wares in presence of global participants in large numbers, said All India Granite and Stone Association President Munawar Basha.
Speaking to newsmen here he said over 2100 stalls would be set up for over 400 exhibitors during this fair. Over two lakh visitors were expected he added. Delegations from various countries such as China, The United States of America, Italy, Egypt and Norway were also expected to take part, he added.
Replying to queries he said a buyer-sellter meet would be organised during the five day event. A seminar on Geology, Mines Safety and environment would also be held, he added. Besides, a special area had been provided wherein stone artisans would be invited from all over India working on different natural stones like granite, marbles and sandstones would be given space to display their skills.
Answering a question he said the granite and value added products had increased the domestic consumption by 25 per cent. The annual export had also rapidly increased from Rs 50 crore in 1987 to Rs 4000 crore during 2007. At the same time the domestic consumption had crossed Rs 6000 crore, he pointed out.
