Chandigarh, Jan 23 (UNI) In a people friendly step, the Chandigarh Administration has decided that registration of births and deaths in rural areas will be done through primary health Centres/civil dispensaries instead of police stations.

Union territory Home Secretary Krishna Mohan disclosed that Medical Superintendent of PGI, Government Medical College, Government Multi Specialty Hospital, Sector 16 and CHC, Sector 22 have already been appointed as Sub-Registrar of Births and Deaths in their respective hospitals.

He said that Medical Officer In-charge of the primary health centres or civil dispensaries would also function as Sub-Registrar of Births and Deaths.

The Home Secretary said that this process will eliminate the need for the family to visit the office of Registrar, Births and Deaths.
