Bangalore metro to be ready by 2011
Mysore, Jan 23 (UNI) The Bangalore Metro Rail will be ready for service by the end of 2011, Project Director Sudhir Chandra said today.
Addressing a meeting of Builders Association of India (BAI), Mysore Centre, he said the first phase of the Rs 6,325 crore project was originally slated to be completed by 2012-2013.
The project was conceived 30 years back. Pressure on the road transport would ease once the project was over.
''Once the facility comes up, traffic congestion will ease and pollution rate will be less,'' he said.
The Metro Rail, which connects east-west and north-south regions of the city, included both underground and elevated tracks.
The project would link Kempegowda and BMTC bus stands and main Railway stations. The track would be underground in the vicinity of Vidhana Soudha, to preserve heritage sites, he added.
