World Social Forum 2008 on January 26

Mumbai, Jan 22 (UNI) One of the 22 global press conferences was held here today to announce the details of the decentralised World Social Forum Global Day of Mobilisation and Action for year 2008, which will be observed on January 26 in all parts of the world.

The World Social Forum is am area where social movements, NGO's and other societies debates about various issues of concern and network for effective action.

Speaking to mediapersons, activist Jatin Desai along with others gave details about the weekly programmes in the city that will coincide with the Global Day of Mobilisation and Action.

Different forms of activities and protests would take place all over the world throughout the week with activists raising their voice against various issues.

On January 26, people across nations will rise in co-ordinated action and mobilisation against war, militarisation, violence and the corporate onslaught of the capitalist forces to convey their displeasure to the acts.

In Japan, one month of action has been organised to protest against the G8 meeting to be held in Hokaido.

Many activities will be taking places in various of Mumbai and Pune in various places to register their support to the cause.

A documentary movie ''Palestine is still the issue'' by journalist John Pilger was screened today after the press briefing as part of the weekly activities. In addition to this, a discussion on the present conditions in Pakistan namely 'Pakistan Today' has been organised at Asiatic Society on January 25. A Palestine solidarity get together at Churchgate and a float parade on issues related to Mumbai and Maharashtra from Shivaji Park in Central Mumbai to Girgaon Chowpatty in South Mumbai, will be held on January 26.
