SP to oppose acquisition of farm lands
Mangalore, Jan 22 (UNI) Former Karnataka chief minister and Samajwadi Party (SP) State president S Bangarappa today strongly opposed the forceful acquisition of lands from farmers for the proposed Mangalore Special Economic Zone.
Addressing a press conference here, he warned that acquisition of fertile farm lands would lead to shortage of food grains, which would have an adverse effect on food security.
Stating that his party would contest all the 224 Assembly seats in the coming elections in the State , he said the party would not have any poll pact with other parties.
Mr Bangarappa announced that a state-level Backward Classes community convention would be organised by the SP next month in Chitradurga to discuss the problems and issues being faced by OBCs and try to find a solution.
He reiterated that if his party comes to power, farmers would be provided free power supply for irrigation pumpsets.
