One killed, 55 injured as buses collide
Chennai, Jan 22 (UNI) A man was killed and 55 others injured in a collision between a private bus from Maharashtra and a Tamil Nadu State Express Transport Corporation (TNSTC) bus at Achunthanvayal village in Ramanathapuram district today.
Reports received at the police heaquarters here said while one bus, carrying 30 people from Maharashtra, was returning after a pilgrimage to Rameswaram, the other bus was on its way to Rameswaram from Coimabtore when the incident occurred near a blind turn on the Ramanad-Madurai Highway.
In the impact, the Maharashtra bus overturned after the head on collision, injuring 30 people. 26 others travelling in the TNSTC bus sustained injuries.
While 18 of the injured were admitted to Madurai Government Hospital, the remaining were admitted to Ramnad government hospital, where one Mani (68), hailing from Tiruchirapalli succumbed.
