Jharkhand Party member shot dead
Jhargram, Jan 22 (UNI) Unidentified miscreants gunned down a former village pradhan of the Jharkhand Party (JKP) at Kanko village under Binpur Police Station yesterday night.
The incident occurred when the deceased was returning home after attending a party meeting, SDO Jhargram Eron Ebrahim Israel said here today.
Three miscreants struck him with lathis and then pumped bullets from close range, he added.
Police were yet to ascertain the identity of the killers.
However, Liyakat Ali, secretary of the central committee of the Jharkhand Party, alleged that the CPI(M) activists were behind the murder.
Political rivalry between the CPI(M) and the Jharkhand Party in Binpur area had resulted in the killing of at least eight people in the past one year.
