Hemant Karkare is new Maharashtra ATS chief
Mumbai, Jan 22 (UNI) Mumbai Police Joint Commissioner (Administration) Hemant Karkare was today appointed Chief of the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) in place of Dr K P Raghuvanshi.
Talking to UNI here this evening, Mr Karkare confirmed his appointment.
He has replaced Dr Raghuvanshi, who till recently was holding the additional charge of the ATS, in addition to discharging the responsibilities as Additional Director General (Railway Security).
Mr Karkare, who is the 1982 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Vishveshvarayya Regional Engineering in Nagpur. He has also served in the naxalite-infested Chandarpur area of the state.
