Governor urged to declare Netaji's birthday as holiday
Shillong, Jan 22 (UNI) The Greater Shillong Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Birthday Celebration Committee has urged Governor Shivender Singh Sidhu to convince Meghalaya government to officially declare January 23 as state holiday tomorrow.
In a letter submitted to the Governor, committee president Naba Bhattacharjee said Netaji was one of the freedom fighters who visited the state, formerly under Assam, and was impressed with the system of governance in Khasi Hills.
The committee stressed that Netaji was a great patriot and deserved to be honoured with a state holiday.
''Netaji's role in the freedom struggle of our motherland is legend not only in India but throughout the world,'' he added.
