UGDP withdraws nomination; 14 in the fray for Simaria bypoll

    Chatra, Jan 21 (UNI) Altogether 14 candidates remained in the fray for the February four Siamaria bypolls after the UGDP candidate today withdrew his nomination.

    About 15 nominations were filed for the bypoll.

    Sub-divisional officer-cum-electoral officer Bhagwan Das said here UGDP candidate Vinod Bihari Paswan had withdrawn his nomination.

    The party had announced to extend its support to Ramchandra Ram of the CPI.

    Others including the CPM, RJD and JMM had also announced support to Mr Ram.

    The BJP had fielded Kumar Ujjwal, son of former Simaria MLA Upendranath Das (BJP) whereas former RJD leader Yogendra Baitha was the Congress candidate for the bypoll.

    The notification for the bypoll, which was necessitated following the death of Mr Das, was issued on January 10.

    Counting of votes would take place on February 7.
