Russia needs anti-missile missiles to hit near-space targets:Cmdr
Moscow, Jan 21 (UNI) Russia needs anti-missile missiles capable of hitting the targets in near-space, Strategic Forces' commander Col General Yuri Solovyov said today.
''We already have new missiles for the S-400 anti-aircraft systems. These are surface-to-air missiles. We also need high-altitude missiles that can destroy targets in near-space,'' he said at a press conference.
''The high-altitude anti-missile missiles and other types of S-400 systems will fully use the potential of the system that has not and will not have equivalents in the near future,'' Interfax-AVN military news agency quoted him as saying.
Gen Solovyov also said the second battery of S-400 Triumph anti-aircraft missile defence systems will be deployed in the Moscow region at the end of this year.
Last year, Russia deployed S-400 missile systems around the capital to protect it from any missile attacks.
