Minus 27 in Drass, people in Kashmir also shiver at -5.7 degrees
Srinagar, Jan 21 (UNI) Drass, the second coldest place in the world after Siberia, recorded the coldest night of the season so far after the minimum dipped to minus 27 degrees Celsius while night in the Kashmir valley become colder, partially freezing parts of world famous Dal Lake this morning.
A UNI report from Kargil said people in Drass experienced the coldest night of the winter so far after the minimum temperature dipped to minus 27 degrees this morning, disrupting normal life.
The day also was cold as the maximum was recorded minus 13.5 degrees, the report said. It said a number of water bodies were frozen due to the severe cold.
The authorities had already stopped supply of water through taps to people in Drass for winter months. However, it is being supplied through water tankers to consumers.
The night became colder because of clear sky after recent snowfall, the report added.
The nearby Kargil also recorded coldest night with minimum temperature dipping to minus 21.5 degrees while the maximum was also minus 10.5 degrees, badly affecting normal life.
Majority people in both Drass and Kargil remained indoor owing to Muharram holiday today.
