Four militant groups call for NE bandh on Republic day
Imphal, Jan 21 (UNI) Four militant organisations of the North East have called a bandh in the region on Republic Day from 0100 hrs to 1800 hrs.
The Kamatapur Liberation Organisation (KLO), Manipur People's Liberation Front (MPLF), Tripura People's Democratic Front (TPDF) and United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) have jointly called for boycott of the Republic Day celebrations.
''The Republic Day is the day on which the Indian Constitution was imposed on the people of the region so as to legalise their colonial occupation,'' the militant groups stated.
The four organisations alleged that the Constitution had undermined the unity of the region by fragmenting it on ethnic lines as part of the colonial policy of ''divide and rule''.
''The liberation forces in the region remain divided into two lines, that is, those in ceasefire and peace talks process on the one hand and those actively continuing armed struggle against India on the other,'' the joint statement added.
