Congress seeks steps to end killing of Indian students in US
New Delhi, Jan 21(UNI) The Congress party today expressed concern over the recent increasing trend in the murders of Indian origin students in the United States.
While conveying deep sympathy to the families of the victims, AICC Spokesperson Jayanthi Natarajan said the Indian embassy in the US should take up the matter seriously with the American administration to ensure that such incidents did not recur.
''Over the last couple of months, there have been at least three such incidents. It is a matter of grave concern,'' she said.
Ms Natarajan also condemned the police firing in Kahalgaon in Bihar, and asked the Nitish Kumar government to look at the ''just demands'' of the people in terms of electricity supply.
She said the Bihar government should take steps to ensure that such incidents did not take place again.
Ms Natarajan reminded the Bihar government that the people had every right to demonstrate peacefully. The police should not be used to suppress the people's movement.
She said the police fired at the innocent people without any provocation, killing at least four people.
In this context, she said unofficial reports put the toll at eight.
