Thane Congress Committee names Shankarrao Chavan for Bharat Ratna
Thane, Jan 20 (UNI) After A B Vajpayee, Jyoti Basu and Kanshi Ram, now former Chief Minister of Maharashtra Shankarrao Chavan's name is being proposed for the country's highest civilian honour, Bharat Ratna.
Thane district Congress Committee (Rural), at its meeting here today, demanded the Bharat Ratna award for former Chief Minister of Maharashtra and Union Minister Late Shankarrao Chavan.
General Secretary of the district Congress Committee (Rural) Kisan Tarmale informed the media that the party unit has forwarded a memorandum to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in this regard.
It has been stated in the memorandum that the workers of Thane District, the citizens having faith in the concept and ideology of the Congress and the Party workers sincerely demand that ''Bharat Ratna'' be declared in the name of Late Shankarrao Chavan - the Ex-union Minister for Home Affairs, a sincere party worker, Ex-Chief Minister, freedom fighter, considering the devotion and sacrifice of his entire life.
Mr Tarmale mentioned that the resolution was passed unanimously at the meeting of Ambarnath City Congress Committee. Secretary of Thane district Congress and Organizer of Seva Dal, District Mahila Congress President and several others were the special representatives of the district Congress, present for the special and crucial meeting, said Mr Tarmale.
