Almost half of Brits spy on their partners on social networks

London, Jan 20 : It seems that Brit are not that confident about their partner's fidelity, for a study has found that almost half of young Brits check up on their partners on social networks such as Facebook.

And some youngsters lie on their web pages, with some even inventing 'friends' to look popular.

According to a poll of 1000 Brits for Internet providers AOL, it was found that about 45 per cent of people aged 16 to 35 who are in a relationship admitted that they couldn't resist the temptation to sneak a look at their partner's page.

A 15 per cent of Brits admitted that they have been caught lying to their partner or friends through photos or information on Facebook or MySpace pages.

Meanwhile, it was also found that one in three 12-17-year-olds responded that they made more friends online than in real life, as it is easier to find people with similar interests.

Four in 10 people admit Facelooking, secretly checking out someone they fancy at school or work on sites such as Facebook.

"This study shows how central the internet has become to British relationships and people's self-image," the Daily Record quoted Michael Steckler, AOL UK managing director, as saying.

"It's amazing that people are willing to create imaginary friends online to appear more popular," he added.
