Gaan Ngai festival begins in Manipur
Imphal, Jan 20 (UNI) Gaan Ngai, a post-harvest festival of the Ronkgmai community in Manipur, began here today.
The five-day festival is marked with feasts, dances and several other cultural programmes at all places dominated by Rongmai community.
Governor S S Sidhu in his message said the festival also provides an opportunity for the people to come together irrespective of caste, creed and religion to work for ensuring peace and harmony in society.
''During the celebration, the edifice of oneness gets strengthened and this bond of oneness is a necessity,'' he added.
Glorifying the living together of various ethnic groups in harmony for ages, the Governor exuded confidence that every community in the state would work towards sustaining the tradition.
Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh in his message wished and greeted all the people on the occassion.
