Centre told about addl crop loss in TN floods
Chennai, Jan 20 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Government today said the Centre had been intimated about the crop loss in additional areas during last month's floods in several parts of the state and had sought relief.
As per the December 27 letter sent to the Prime Minister by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi quoting initial estimates, 1,13,484 hectares of irrigated lands and other lands to the extent of 16,552 hectares were damaged in floods, an official release said, here.
However, a final picture on the total crop loss analysed after receding of flood waters, showed that 1,40,617 hectares of irrigated lands and 17,546 hectares of other lands were damaged.
It said the damages were more in Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Cuddalore, Trichy, Thanjavur, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur and Tiruvannamalai districts, where paddy in 1,19,499 hectares, small pulses crops in 2,023 hecatres, pulses in 13,115 hectares and oilseed crops to the extent of 23,444 hectares were damaged.
This had been conveyed to the Centre, the release said.
