88 per cent polling recorded in MC election in Haryana

Chandigarh, Jan 20 (UNI) About 88 per cent votors exercised their franchise in the Municipal Elections, which were held for the offices of 169 members of municipal comiittees of the State today. The polling started at 0800 hrs and concluded at 1600 hrs. The polling was peaceful and no untoward incident was reported.

Haryana State Election Commissioner, Chander Singh said as per the election programme issued by the State Election Commission, Haryana, the votes for the offices Haily Mandi, Pataudi in district Gurgaon, Tarou in district Mewat, Narnaund in district Hisar, Siwani and Bawani Khera in district Bhiwani, Kalayat and Pundri in district Kaithal, Indri and Nilokheri in district Karnal, Kharkhoda in district Sonepat, Kalanaur in district Rohtak and Beri in district Jhajjar were polled today.

In these elections Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) were used and 13 returning officers were appointed besides 163 polling stations were set up and 815 polling personnels were deputed to conduct free and fare elections.

He said one Observer (Elections) and one Observer (Expenditure) was also appointed in each district for smooth conduct of elections.

Mr Singh said the counting of votes started at the polling station immediately after the closing of polling. He said after the counting of votes, the presiding officer would send the votes secured by each candidates in Form 18 to the returning officer. The Returning Officer would compile the votes in Form-8 and would declare elected candidate, who would secure the highest number of votes.
