Governor calls for civic consciousness, awareness on road safety
Chennai, Jan 19 (UNI) Expressing concern that road accidents were on the rise, Tamil Nadu Governor S S Barnala today said creation of civic consciousness and awareness about safety were needed to ensure road safety.
Addressing the annual celebrations of the Chennai Goods Transport Association here, he said road accidents were on the rise everyday with increase in volume of traffic. He was pleased to learn that the association was conducting safety campaigns.
The Governor commended the Chennai Goods Transport Association Charitable Trust was organising medical camps for drivers, cleaners and families of staff members every year.
Stating that HIV/AIDS had become a deadly disease and one of the greatest challenges faced by the country, the Governor said he was happy that the trust was conducting screening camps for detecting HIV cases periodically.
