Anganwadi workers threaten to intensify agitation

Rourkela, Jan 19 (UNI) All Orissa Anganwadi Lady Workers Association (AOALWA), affiliated to Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh, today threatened to intensify their agitation if the government did not fulfill their fourteen-point charter of demands.

The demands included declaration of Angawanwadi workers as state government employees, promotion of Angawadi workers to the posts of Supervisors lying vacant, fixing the retirement age of employees at 62, implementation of the recommendation of the National Committee for Anganwadi employees, declaration of holidays for Anganwadi employees during summer and closure of the Centre during the period.

Around 800 employees, led by AOALWA state President Prashant Padhi, marched in a procession from Birsa Chowk and submitted a memorandum to Rourkela Sub -Collector addressed to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in support of their demands.

Mr Padhi said they would hold demonstration at Bhubaneswar and Delhi and intensify their agitation if the government did not concede to their demands.
