Wanted criminal shot dead in encounter

Chitrakoot, Jan 18 (UNI) A wanted member of the notorious Dadua dacoit gang -- Nathu alias Chela -- who was carrying a bounty of Rs 60,000 on his head, was gunned down in a police encounter early this morning here.

The encounter started late evening in the jungles of village Tadva in Manikpur area yesterday and lasted this morning.

Nathu was accused in several heinous crimes viz murder, loot and abduction.

The terror of the outlaw haunted people for quite long in Uttar Pradesh (UP) and Madhya Pradesh (MP), police said.

UP police had announced a reward of Rs 50,000 on Nathu's head, while the MP police had declared bounty of Rs 10,000 upon him.

Kingpin of the gang, Dadua, was shot dead in an encounter with Special Task Force of police last year.
