Two fatally knocked down while walking on road

Chennai, Jan 18 (UNI) Two people walking on the pavement were mowed down by a Tamil Nadu State Express Transport Corporation Bus at Tambaram Sanitorium, about 25 km from here, today.

Police said the Salem-bound Bus first hit a Mahindran Bolero van, parked on the road side, before it ran amok killing Panjavarnam (47), hailing from Vellore and Marappan (45) from Chromepet in the city, on the spot.

The person who was sitting at the wheel in Bolero van V R Krishnakumar, who is the editor of Indian Reporters magazine, and Panchavarnam's daughter Vijayalakshmi (14) sustained injuries in the mishap and were admitted to hospital.

The driver of the bus was arrested.
