Shahi Imam seeks minority character for AMU, Jamia Millia
New Delhi, Jan 18 (UNI) The Shahi Imam of Delhi's Fatehpuri Mosque, Maulana Mufti Mohammad Mukaram Ahmed, today demanded minority character to the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) and the Jamia Millia Islami varsity as well.
In a message on the eve of the tenth day (Ashoora) of Muharram, he said the previous BJP-led NDA government had granted the minority character to Hamdard University.
''The UPA government is still searching ways and constituting commissions in this regard.'' The Shahi Imam urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Human Resources Minister Arjun Singh to grant the minority character to both AMU and Jamia Millia Islamia.
