Kidwai hails media for creating awareness in society
Chandigarh, Jan 18 (UNI) Lauding the role of Press in the Pre and Post independence era, Haryana Governor A R Kidwai today hoped that the media would continue to play its vital role as a bridge between the government and the public for bringing awareness in the society.
Presiding over the three-day Media Fest Soch'08 function organised by the Department of Mass Communication Panjab University today, the Governor said the fearless writing and support to national movement by the media during pre-Independence era were one of the reasons which forced Britishers to quit India.
He praised Press for acting as a strong pillar of democracy which had helped in its survival in the country.
He asked media to become the voice of the people and raise their demands before the Government.
He said due to freedom of Press in India and advancement in information technology, media freely criticises the faults of the Government and keeps it on toe.
Dr Kidwai hoped that Mass Communication Department of Panjab University which is oldest Department in Asia would produce dynamic and responsible journalists who would perform their onerous responsibility with confidence.
While speaking on the occasion, Prof R C Sobti, Vice-Chancellor of the Panjab University highlighted the role of the contemporary media and the relevance of news in the today's era of globalisation.
