Kerala HC direction to state govt. on hartal calls
Kochi, Jan 18 (UNI) Kerala High court today admitted a petition seeking a direction to the state government to take steps to ensure that calls for 'bandhs' and 'hartals' were not published in any media.
A division bench comprising Justices J B Koshi and K Hema also directed the state government to file a counter affidavit within three weeks.
The petition was filed by a public spirited person Sathyavan Kottarakara, who also sought a direction to the government to form a special fund for compensating those who suffered injuries in untoward incidents during 'hartals' and 'bandhs'.
The compensation amount should be recovered from persons sponsoring the 'hartals', he submitted.
