Suspected maoists taken for questioning

Kochi, Jan 17 (UNI) Six suspected maoists, including four women, were rounded up for questioning by police following information from the Special Branch that they were holding a 'meeting' at a house in Kalamassery near here last night.

The police said Binayak Bhattacharya, Debolina Chakraborty, Chabbi Maity and Avani Das, all hailing from West Bengal, Shyna P A from Kochi and Jeseela belonging to Kannur were taken into custody from Shyna's home.

During investigation it was found that Binayak, Debolina, Chabbi and Avani came to Kerala to highlight the atrocities happening in Nandigram in West Bengal and they had held meetings in Thrissur and Muvattupuzha in Ernakulam district.

They were let off this morning along with the locals after recording their personal details and given instruction not to leave the city for the next two days.

The relevant details were transferred to the Special Branch for verification with the West Bengal police.

Later, talking to mediapersons, Debolina, who belongs to the Matangini Mahila Samity (MMS) which, she claims, had been formed to protect the rights of the Nandigram victims said they were here to make people aware of the terror unleashed in Nandigram.

She said the four-member team had been in Kerala for the past one week and holding meetings at various places.

Chabbi also belongs to MMS, Binayak represents United Students Democratic Front and Avani, Bhooti Uchak Pradiroth Committee.

Shyna and Jeseela were assisting the team in the State.
