K'taka: 7 police staff arrested for accepting a bribe

Bangalore, Jan 16: Karnataka Lokayukta slueths today arrested seven police officers attached to Central Crime Branch (CCB) for allegedly accepting bribe of Rs 10000 from a service apartment operator.

Karnataka Lokayukta office here today stated that, Deepak Sreekanth and other officers belonging to CCB had threathened Mr Shibukumar who runs a service apartment to pay Rs one lakh or face charges of running prostitution in the premises.

The accused, according to press release issued by the Lokayukta, Police have agreed to Rs 40000 after a bit of bargaining and have accepted Rs 25000 as an advance. The police officials were caught red handed when the balance amount was being paid to Deepak.

Upon investigtions by the Lokayukta police it was reaveled that apart from Deepak who was caught while accepting bribe amount was also supported by other staff of Women and Narcotic Squad in CCB.

All the accused were arrested and remanded to Judicial custody, the Lokayukta sources added.
