Punjab pays tribute to Kuka Martyrs

Malerkotla, Jan 17 (UNI) Lauding the outstanding contribution made by Namdhari sect in the national freedom struggle led by Satguru Ram Singh ji, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal said the year long celebrations of '150 years of Kuka Movement' was a real tribute to the Kuka martyrs who made unprecedented sacrifices for the attainment of freedom.

Paying rich tributes to 66 Kuka Martyrs at a state level function to observe the martyrdom day of Kukas here at Martyrs Memorial, Mr Badal said ''The Punjab government is committed to perpetuate the legacy of freedom fighters and national heroes through organising state level functions to inculcate the spirit of patriotism and nationalism amongst the younger generation.'' The Chief Minister announced to erect a memorial here in the memory of the youngest Kuka Baba Wariam Singh who was also one of the martyrs to be blown off by the canons of British.

He also announced to celebrate the birthday of Satguru Ram Singh ji at state level at Bhaini Sahib on February 11.

Member of Parliament from Sangrur, Mr Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa also paid glorious tributes to the Kuka martyrs and said their unparalleled sacrifices would always be a source of inspiration for the youth to serve their motherland.
