Kidwai calls for drive against declining sex ratio
Chandigarh, Jan 17 (UNI) Haryana Governor A R Kidwai today expressed concern at the declining sex ratio in the country and called for launching a crusade against this evil.
Presiding over the Regional Seminar on Female Foeticide and Infanticide organised by National Commission for Protection of Child Rights here, he called for creating awareness in this regard among the people specially in rural areas.
Dr Kidwai said that women had proved their mettle in every sphere of life by excelling their male counterparts. He said the Panchayats managed by the women Sarpanches were doing better than the Panchayat headed by men.
He said the Union Government was actively considering reservation of one third seats in Parliament and State Assemblies to give more representation to the women.
The Governor suggested that in order to prevent female foeticide in an effective manner, strict vigil be kept on the record of the ultra sound machines and pregnant women be identified to check the menace.
