HC declines Virk's plea for CBI probe; asks for new team

Chandigarh, Jan 17 (UNI) Punjab and Haryana High Court today declined the prayer of former Punjab police chief S S Virk to hand over to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) the investigation of the case registered against him by Punjab Vigilance Bureau under the Prevention of Corruption Act, among others.

Justice H S Bhalla, while disposing of the petition however, directed disbanding of the present investigating team.

The court directed that a new team be constituted headed by SSP-level officer which would submit report periodically to the state home secretary.
