Congress to act as responsible Opposition: Gohil

Ahmedabad, Jan 17 (UNI) Newly-appointed Congress Legislative Party leader Shaktishinh Gohil today said that Congress will act as a responsible Opposition and give voice to people's problems.

Mr Gohil said the party will support all efforts to make Gujarat a number one state but it will not allow the state exchequer to be misused.

He said that Congress-led UPA government at the Centre has extended all help to Gujarat and Finance Minister P Chidambaram had provided all statistics regarding Central assistance to Gujarat during his recent visit to Ahmedabad. The Congress will ensure that Central aid reaches the beneficiaries, Mr Gohil said.

He said if the memoranda of understanding on investments in the state remain only on paper, then there will not be any real growth. Congress will try to bring in real investments in the state, he stressed.

''There are many pending issues like unemployment, lack of proper power supply to farmers, welfare of minorities, and such other issues which the state government has not shown much interest in resolving,'' Mr Gohil alleged.

Bhavnagar, from where Mr Gohil hails, celebrated his appointment as CLP leader. Congress workers burst fire crackers and distributed sweets.
