Centrally sponsored scheme of integrated low cost sanitation scheme approved

New Delhi, Jan 17 : The Union Cabinet today gave its approval for implementation of the revised guidelines for converting individual dry latrines into pour-flush latrines of the Centrally Sponsored Scheme of Integrated Low Cost Sanitation Scheme (ILCS).

It approve at a total financial implication of Rs. 715.48 crores with a Central subsidy component of Rs. 545.16 crores.

The Scheme will convert 6 lakh dry latrines into water borne flush toilets in the country from the year 2007-08 to 2009-10.

The States/UTs will be requested to take appropriate action to implement the scheme on priority basis.
