Melbourne, Jan 17: India's Sania Mirza has advanced into the third round of the women's singles event in the Australian Open after defeating unseeded Timea Bacsinszky of Switzerland 6-1, 4-6, 7-5.
Sania
won
the
first
set
convincingly
6-1
with
her
forehand
proving
to
be
too
powerful
for
her
unseeded
Swiss
oponent.
But
Sania
lost
momentum
in
the
second
set
as
Bacsinszky
won
the
second
set
4-6.
A
determined
Sania
broke
Bacsinszky's
serve
at
a
crucial
time
and
won
the
set
7-5.
In
the
next
round,
Sania
has
the
uphill
task
of
taking
on
eighth-seeded
Venus
Williams
of
the
USA.
The
American
defeated
Camille
Pin
of
France
7-5
6-4
to
book
a
berth
in
the
third
round.
