UP files affidavit in police recruitment scam

Allahabad, Jan 16 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh government today filed an affidavit before the Allahabad High Court in the state police recruitment scam, in which the role of several senior IPS and PPS officers had come under the scanner.

UP chief secretary filed a personal affidavit to this effect before a division bench comprising Justice D P Singh.

The affidavit was filed on his behalf by state chief standing counsel M C Chaturvedi.

In his affidavit, he informed the HC that a committee headed by him would soon submit a report to the state cabinet for transparent recruitment process in UP in future.

The said committee was constituted as per the state cabinet order passed on October 4, 2007.

The affidavit mentioned that the state government had lodged FIRs against 25 IPS and 111 PPS officers in the scam and initiated action against them.

Investigation against 54 of the 111 PPS officers had been completed and charge sheet filed against them, the affidavit added.

There were two separate probe committees -- one headed by the chief secretary and another by ADG Shailjakant Mishra.

The case would be next heard on January 22.
