Power line snaps, several trains delayed
Kochi, Jan 16 (UNI) Several trains, including Chennai Mail and Bangalore-bound Island Express, were delayed for at least three hours today, following damage to electric power line on the Kottayam-Ernakulam sector.
Railway officials said the power line broke near the Kathrikadavu Bridge in the city at about 1700 hrs.
While the Island Express was detained at Tripunithara station, Chennai Mail was held up at Piravom and the Ernakulam-Kottayam Passenger at Ernakulam South, Railway officials said here.
The Venad Express, running between Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam, left here at about 1900 hrs, two-hour behind schedule, after its electric engine was replaced with a diesel.
Efforts were on to repair the line and the services were expected to resume later tonight, they added.
