Plea for zone creation to tackle bird flu
Chennai, Jan 16 (UNI) The National Egg Co-ordination Committee (NECC) today appealed to the Centre to create a separate zone for Namakkal, in Tamil Nadu, as part of zoning and compartmentalisation of poultry-producing regions, to keep the export during Bird Flu incidence intact.
In a statement here, NECC Chairperson Anuradha J Desai said the occurrence of Bird Flu in West Bengal had adversely affected the export from Namakkal.
The Centre should create separate zones to protect the industry in case of incidence in one part of the country.
He also alleged that the Flu was mostly found in government-run hatcheries, which actually form only two per cent. The virus was found in day-old chicks from Government hatcheries, he added.
