HC directs Centre to reply to petition on Sachar Comm report

New Delhi, Jan 16 (UNI) The Delhi High Court today directed the Union Government to file its reply on a petition filed by an advocate challenging the Sachar Committee report.

Ravinder Kumar of the Rashtriya Mukti Morcha has challenged the Sachar Committee report on the grounds that only Muslims cannot be termed as minorities whereas the benefits of the report should be extended to other minorities also.

The bench comprising Chief Justice M K Sharma and Justice Reva Khetrapal directed the Union Government to file its reply within two weeks. It also asked the petitioner to file his rejoinder within the next two weeks and fixed February 20 as the next date of hearing.

The petition stated that the entire exercise by the Government to set up the Sachar Committee was only to appease the Muslim community and was not for the benefit of other minorities so the Action Taken Report should be halted at the outset.
