Border with WB sealed following avian flu

Ranchi, Jan 16 (UNI) As culling began in West Bengal due to avian flu, the Jharkhand government today banned import of chicken, particularly from Birbhum, that shares border with Pakur district in the state.

Pakur Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rajesh Kumar Sharma issued the ban on chicken import from the neighbouring district with immediate effect.

The DC ordered the BDOs and COs to ensure implementation of the ban.

Besides, a team was constituted to take stock of the situation in the district in the wake of avian flu that forced the West Bengal Government to sound a fresh alert throughout the state yesterday and sealed the border with Bangladesh.

The deadly disease hit Rampurhat in Birbhum district and Balurghat in South Dinajpur.
