14-member rowdy gang arrested
Bangalore, Jan 16 (UNI) The City Crime Branch police have nabbed a 14-member gang, led by a notorious rowdy, wanted in cases of murders, extortion and looting by both Tamil Nadu and Karnataka police.
Talking to newspersons here today, City Police Commissioner N Achyutha Rao said the gang, led by Narayanaswamy, had let loose a reign of terror in Chikka Begur, Dodda Begur, Electronic city and other adjoining areas of south-east Bangalore.
Police arrested the gang when it was planning to attack Matni Naga, an opponent of Narayanaswamy, near Electronic city on Sunday last, he said.
A German-made revolver, four country-made pistols, 30 fire arms, lethal weapons and three vehicles with fake name plates were also recovered from their possession, he added.
Taking advantage of the booming real estate business, the gang was also involved in creating false revenue records and grabbed both government and private lands after terrorising the locals and government officials, the Commissioner added.
The officials who were involved in nabbing the gang would be suitably rewarded, Mr Rao said.
