Wild elephant dies after collision with goods train
Alipur Duar, Jan 15 (UNI) A baby elephant died early this morning, when a goods train collided with a herd of wild elephants, crossing the railway tracks at Rajabhatkhawa here in Jalpaiguri district.
This section of the North Eastern Frontier Railways is used by some major intercity express and mail trains. The incident occurred when the train collided with the herd of wild elephants that was trying to cross the tracks under the cover of night. Local eye witnesses said that it was a forest and dense fog lay over the whole area.
DFO, Jalpaiguri, Tapas Das, while speaking on the reccurrence of such incidents, said ''We had repeatedly asked the railways to make sure that trains moved at a slower pace near here, but they have not paid any heed to our requests.'' UNI XC LL NC RAI2050
