Troops to shoot miscreants during polls: Musharraf
Islamabad, Jan 15 (UNI) Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf has said troops will be ordered to shoot miscreants during the forthcoming February 18 general elections in the country.
Speaking to leading businessmen, industrialists and bankers in Karachi yesterday, he said, '' Let me assure you we are going to instruct the rangers and army to shoot miscreants during elections,'' the Associated Press of Pakistan reported.
Referring to the December 27 assassination of former premier Benazir Bhutto, he said, ''We will not allow this activity to happen again.'' The President said the government has given a task to rangers and the army for the coming elections. They will be out on the streets during and after elections.
The elections were postponed from January 8, following Bhutto's assassination.
Violence after the death of the Pakistan Peoples' Party leader has led to security concerns in the run-up to the polls.
