Imphal, January 15 (UNI) The Manipur government has decided to hike the monthly allowance of surrendered militants from Rs 2,000 to Rs 4,000 per month.

Official sources said here today that a Cabinet meeting, presided over by Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, took the decision last night.

''The surrender policy will be modified and instead of the previous Rs 1.5 lakh, now Rs five lakh will be kept as fixed deposit for every militant who surrenders before the government,'' the sources added.

The militants would also be given special training in some vocations and after three years, they could encash the money from the bank.

The Cabinet meeting also decided to set up a complex at Jiribam in Imphal East, where the surrendered ultras would be provided all the necessary facilities, including education, health care and vocational training.
