Kalam to deliver science lecture next month

Patna, Jan 15(UNI) Former President APJ Abdul Kalam will arrive here on February 8 to inculcate a scientific temperament among the students and finalise the study courses of the Nalanda International University.

Official sources informed here today that Dr Kalam, who had been requested to take up the post of 'Visitor' of the proposed university, would chair the meeting of several renowned academics, including Noble laureate economist Amartya Sen, to finalise the science and other study courses for the inaugural academic session.

The institute is coming up near the site of the ancient university of Nalanda by this year end at a cost of nearly Rs 50 crores.

Later, Dr Kalam would deliver the inaugural 'Arya Bhatt Popular Science Lecture' here emphasising the growing role of science and technology as a means of social transformation and all-round development, the sources informed.

Being organised by the state science and technology department, the lecture session would be participated by senior scientists from the country and abroad, including Director of DNA finger printing S E Hussain,Director of the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology Dr Lalji Singh and Nano scientist Torbjorn Lundstedit from the university of Uppasala, Sweden.

This would be Dr Kalam's maiden visit to Bihar after leaving the country's highest office last year. Besides Patna, he will travel to Gaya and Bodhgaya during his two-day tour.
