Dr Shubhashis Gangopadhayay joins as adviser to FM

New Delhi, Jan 15 (UNI) Dr Shubhashis Gangopadhyay today joined as Adviser to the Finance Minister, filling up the post which fell vacant after the resignation of Dr Parthasarthi Shome.

Dr Gangopadhyay is currently working as Director, India Development Foundation.

He completed his Ph D in Economics from Cornell University, US.

Earlier, he was Professor at Indian Statistical Institute and has a distinguished teaching career including at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, Rutgers University, US and University of Southern California, US. Dr Gangopadhyay, who is member of internationally renowned professional bodies, has a number of important publications to his credit and has handled prestigious projects at the national and international organisations including at the World Bank.

He has held several distinguished posts including as Bertil Danielsson Guest Professor, Universities of Gothenburg and Stockholm. He is the Chief Editor, Journal of Emerging Market Finance and Associate Editor of Journal of Financial stability besides President, Society for the Promotion of Game Theory and its Applications.

His appointment was approved by the Appointments Committee of Cabinet and will be in the rank and pay of the Secretary to the Government of India, it was officially announced.
